Sometimes we need a little nudge to act, something to motivate us. The right incentive can sometimes make all the difference. Publisher’s Clearing House has used sweepstakes for years to encourage people to buy magazines through them. Car manufacturers offer rebates, buy one get one free, discounts, Ginsu Steak Knives with your order, all of these are “sweeteners” for motivating response.
The key today is being aware of where the conversations about your business are taking place. Your marketing plan won’t look like mine and it may have more or less channels and processes in it. The key is to have a plan and be aware of how to make the elements work best together!
Organizations will spend great amounts of money and time looking for new prospects, and at the same time blissfully (or stupidly) ignoring their existing customers and not realizing that many are moving on to other vendors without them really knowing. Finding new business is certainly important, but remember that your existing customers are your most valuable asset!
We can’t learn from our mistakes, much less our successes if we are not paying attention. Good marketing requires a measuring mindset which should include the following questions when you start a campaign:
