I’m helping a current customer update their website, the topic came up when we were discussing his marketing plan and he mentioned the amount of time it took to get changes made to his current website. I immediately suggested we look at his site, where I learned that the same site had not been updated in 10 years! 1. The Ability To Make Your Own Simple Edits: This is by far one of the best reasons. Does your restaurant put its menu online? Do you put your services online? Do things change at your business? Yes, of course they do. New website programming makes it so much simpler to do your own editing. Instead of waiting, 1, 2, 3…or even more weeks to get your changes made, …log on to your website and MAKE THEM YOURSELF! If you can use Microsoft Word, you (yes you…) can do this!

2. Update your style: If your website looks awkward and boxy, is too complicated or difficult to navigate, there are a lot of things you can do to simplify and improve your site. Websites can look pretty, be customer oriented and make it easy for your customer or prospect to find what they are looking for. Above all it should look professional, customers will often take their first impression from your website!

3. Your website should be organic. Help the Search Engines (and Your Customers) Find You Easier. If your website is older than 4-5 years, it is likely not up to par for SEO. Add to that Google’s new Panda search algorithm, it looks not just at your keywords, but Panda also looks to see if you are a resource, if you have a blog, Facebook, Twitter and how long people stay on your website! Google wants to deliver search results to it’s customers that represent the best companies. An organic site will work to be that best resource to searchers.

The bottom line is that to really be able to drive traffic and be a resource, your website is something that you can’t ignore and that you should be working on regularly. If you do you can easily start beating out your local competitors for search results in your industry.
